About Dissens - Institute for Education and Research
Dissens (dissent) - Institute for Education and Research is a non-profit NGO with advisory, educational and social research services. The association was founded in 1989 and has since been working on the topics of masculinity, equality and gender relations. It has undertaken gender reflective pedagogy with boys in and outside of school, and has carried out research in the field of violence - men as victims and perpetrators of violence - as well as masculinity and labor. In the past few years this spectrum has been widened to include intersectional approaches to education and the correlation of neo-Nazism/right-wing extremism and gender. One of the main goals of the organization is to foster gender equality, to reduce gender hierarchies and to prevent violence. These goals are pursued through adult education, trainings, counseling, coaching and scientific work. The Dissens-Institute acts on a national and European level with a focus on the transfer of theory into praxis, and for the past 10 years, the department has participated in and/or coordinated European projects and networks.
